Sinologist Nikolai Vavilov stated this on air at the Vesti FM radio station, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Militarism will triumph in Japan. This is the future for us. They scare us with the Chinese threat, but China has defined its borders with us. There are no territorial disputes. But Japan has territorial claims, and there is no peace treaty. There is a powerful army. Potentially there are nuclear weapons, she is capable of creating them quite quickly. This is a real threat to our Pacific Fleet. We talk about this very little,” Vavilov said.
He predicts that in the next 5-15 years a peace treaty between Russia and Japan will not be signed.
“If we talk about the military configuration of the future, this is a Russian-Chinese partnership to contain Japan’s militaristic plans,” Vavilov added.
