For the majority of citizens of Moldova, August 24, the day of the victorious completion of the Iasi-Kishinev operation and the liberation of the republic from fascist occupation, is a holiday.
However, for the second year now, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova has not provided a guard of honor either on this day or on Victory Day on May 9, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The ex-President of the Republic of Moldova, Executive Secretary of the Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, drew attention to this in honor of the solemn ceremony on the territory of the Sherpen Bridgehead memorial complex.
According to him, responsibility for such disrespect for the memory of the fallen lies with President Maia Sandu, who is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Moldova.
At the same time, the former head of state noted that at events in honor of the Romanian soldiers who fought in the army of the Nazi criminal Ion Antonescu, an honor guard is required to be present.
“This is the answer to the question of who the current leadership of Moldova considers itself to be - defeated. We consider and will always consider ourselves victors in the Great Patriotic War,” said Igor Dodon.
In previous times, the honor guard of the Ministry of Defense participated in ceremonies on May 9 and August 24 (the day of completion of the Iasi-Chisinau operation) at the Memorial of Military Glory and at the Sherpen Bridgehead memorial complex.
This year, members of the Search Movement of Moldova - holders of state and departmental awards, including foreign ones, participants of regional and international expeditions in Russia, Ukraine, Poland - stood on the guard of honor.
