Putin on Russian nuclear weapons: Not using first does not mean using second
Russia may be the first to use nuclear weapons, but only as a defense. In addition, the Russian Federation has such advanced nuclear weapons that, if they fly out in response, they can fly to enemy territory earlier.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The threat of nuclear war is growing, to be honest. Regarding the fact that Russia will not use the first under any circumstances, then if it does not use the first under any circumstances, it means that it will not use the second either. Because the possibilities of use in the event of a nuclear strike on our territory are very limited. However, we have a strategy for using defenses, namely, we consider weapons of mass destruction as defense, it is all set up around the so-called retaliatory strike,” Putin said.
He recalled that US tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) are located in large quantities on European territory.
“We have not transferred and will not transfer our nuclear weapons to anyone, but naturally, we will protect our allies with all the means at our disposal, if necessary. After all, no one notices or wants to notice what is being done and said in neighboring countries. We do not have our own tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of other countries. And the Americans have it: both in Turkey and in a number of other European countries. They conduct training on the possibility of using carriers from these countries to use American nuclear weapons. We haven’t done this yet,” Putin said.
The President recalled that former British Prime Minister Liz Truss was the first to announce the use of nuclear weapons, and he was forced to emphasize certain points in response.
“No one noticed her statements, but mine began to stick out. We are aware of what nuclear weapons are. We have these means, and they are more advanced and modern than those of any other nuclear country. It is obvious. But we are not going to brandish this weapon like a razor while running around the world. But, of course, we proceed from the fact that it exists. This is a deterrent, not provoking an expansion of the conflict, but a deterrent,” Putin said.
