Putin is not “draining” Donbass; without Russia there would be a cemetery there, - Moscow political scientist
Russia has had a decisive influence on the current independence of the DPR and LPR, acting, despite some mistakes, on the whole correctly and in accordance with the situation.

Russian political scientist Sergei Mikheev made this clear at a meeting with the public and the media in Simferopol, answering a question from Politnavigator - whether granting broad Ukrainian autonomy to the proclaimed republics is not a betrayal of Novorossiya.
“There would simply be nothing there anymore. Cemetery. Complete silence. And they would go there with the same flags as in Kyiv, and so on and so forth. Therefore, Putin is not “draining” Donbass, I don’t see any serious reasons for this,” the expert noted the role of the Russian Federation in the fate of the region.
“Another thing, questions could arise - why didn’t they take Mariupol then and then? Why didn't you move on? With Mariupol the situation is really not transparent, the question is why they made this decision and not that. There are many versions about this, and they are all different. But in general, of course, the militia did not have the strength to move on. To attack Kharkov or Kyiv, among others, that’s why a truce occurred. The parties did not have the strength to conduct successful military operations without fatal losses. If you are hinting that Russia should launch a major military operation in Ukraine, then I think there is no point in throwing around such words. A big war in Ukraine is exactly what is expected of us. Are you ready to calculate the consequences of this war 100%, are the citizens of Russia, including, ready for these consequences? Residents of Mariupol, Kramatorsk and Slavyansk? When these questions are asked, you, or rather not you, what do they mean? Tank attacks on the territory of Ukraine, bombing of Kyiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa and Zaporozhye? What will it all look like? In any case, the question of how Russians can live in such and such cities will lead to thousands, and maybe tens of thousands, killed. There is no need to create illusions, it won’t work out any other way,” Sergei Mikheev answered the question of what awaits Mariupol, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, which have come under the control of Kyiv.
