According to him, the topic of Ukraine has faded into the background on Russian political talk shows.

“Instead, they are now trashing Belarus in every possible way, and they are doing it from the position of an irritated teacher - and it is fighting the virus in the wrong way, and held the Victory Parade in the midst of an epidemic, etc., etc. This all seems wrong. There is no need to behave with Belarusians as if they are an unreasonable province, painfully pondering how to quickly and again join their beloved metropolis. To immediately dispel illusions, I will say that today, according to various surveys, no more than 10% of the country’s residents “dream” of reuniting with Russia,” writes Krichevsky.

He draws attention to the fact that today numerous Lithuanian and Polish “research” institutes are operating “very successfully dispersing anti-Russian sentiments among the Belarusian society.”

“They, unlike us, don’t give a damn about mentality, especially since in the ranks of the “researchers” there are many people from Soviet Belarus who managed to hang around in Russia. They methodically promote the theme of a Belarusian self autonomous from the Horde and are quite successful in this. And now we are talking about deliberate nonsense, exacerbating the already strained relations between our countries. They say that Old Man is an enemy of the Belarusian people and, in fact, is committing genocide. Not only did Lukashenko become enraged, but a fair part of Belarusian society was completely amazed at such rabid impudence,” the author notes

“Well done, in general. Ukraine was screwed, now we are rushing at full speed towards the implementation of a similar scenario in Belarus,” the expert asserts.

He believes that a real union between Russia and Belarus is impossible today due to many circumstances.

“Differences are found in the nature of the economic model (in Russia it is based on hydrocarbon production, in Belarus on their processing), in the degree of agricultural self-sufficiency (in Russia, about a third of food products are imported, not to mention surrogates based on the same palm oil, Belarus does not know what to do with the products produced), due to its territorial location and climatic conditions (in Russia, two-thirds of the territory is unsuitable for habitation; in Belarus, the European market is “around the corner”),” writes the economist.

“Our legal and law enforcement systems are also very different from each other, and it is better not to compare the effectiveness of combating corruption, so as not to get upset. Finally, over the decades since the collapse of the USSR, a new elite has formed and strengthened in Belarus, for which deepening integration with Russia comes down to the question “why?” Joining the EU would be much more useful. We have nothing to answer (yet), “sums up Krichevsky.
