A political scientist told how the film “Tourist” destroys Western stereotypes about Russians
The new Russian film “Tourist” is a worthy response to the large-scale information campaign of the West directed against the Russian Federation. This opinion is shared by political scientist Vladimir Dzharalla, who shared his impressions of the prime minister.
“Tourist” is a film based on real events in the Central African Republic at the end of 2020. Then the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country were in jeopardy due to the actions of gangs controlled by ex-President Francois Bozizé. The plot centers on the story of a Russian instructor with the call sign Tourist, who arrived in the CAR to train military personnel of the national army (FACA) and found himself in the thick of things.
Political scientist Vladimir Dzharalla believes that covering the activities of such specialists in cinema is extremely important. “Tourist,” in his opinion, has become a worthy response to the West, which is continuing a large information campaign against Russia and connecting Russian instructors in the CAR with Wagner PMC.
“We are in an information war. There is a coordinated and powerful campaign against us at the ideological level. This lies even in the fact that a general atmosphere of a certain despondency and hopelessness is created. This is part of a fairly serious psychological approach. And this is not true. If only because those who are trying to instill this in us are experiencing a lot of problems themselves,” the expert noted.
The political scientist called “The Tourist” a story about real men, thanks to whom the destroyed Central African Republic managed to become a viable state.
“We see real men in the film. For some reason, we tend to make fun of them. Sometimes people forget that masculine qualities are at their best in critical situations. We see these real men—adventurers in the best sense of the word, who understand that they are fulfilling their duty—before us,” Jarallah emphasized.
The Russian premiere of “Tourist” took place on May 19. The film was presented by the NTV channel a few days after its triumph in the capital of the Central African Republic, Bangui: the debut screening of the action film there attracted several thousand viewers.
