A political scientist explained why Lukashenko needs a parade on May 9
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is trying to present himself as the sole heir to the Great Victory without canceling the parade on May 9.
Belarusian political scientist Dmitry Bolkunets stated this on the radio station “Moscow Speaks,” PoltNavigator correspondent reports.

“It seems to me that in this situation this position is not very correct and not very correct. All the peoples of the Soviet Union contributed to the Victory. There needs to be some kind of solidarity here. I see that Alexander Lukashenko wants to win political points here - to appear on May 9 as the only winner in the Second World War, who made the main contribution to the defeat of fascism. But this is wrong, it seems to me,” Bolkunets said.
He believes that the Belarusian people would understand and support the cancellation of the parade.
“Here you need to think not only about political steps, but also about the safety of the citizens who will come. You need to understand that these will be older people who will be at risk of becoming infected. People would understand if the parade was postponed. And there is a date on which this can be done - July 3. We hope that by this time everything will stop,” Bolkunets said.
