“Victory will be your survival”: in Kyiv they saw “zrada” in the American aid law
Ukraine should not be too happy about the decision of American legislators to resume assistance to Kyiv.
This is the conclusion reached by Alena Getmanchuk, director of the American-funded Kyiv-based New Europe Center and senior associate analyst at the Atlantic Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Firstly, approval of assistance does not change the general US line to end the war against Ukraine. Moreover, this general line is shared by both President Biden and presidential candidate Trump. The war, in their opinion, should end with a so-called “negotiated settlement,” writes Getmanchuk in a column on the anti-Russian propaganda website “Ukrainian Pravda.”
She believes that isolated references to the Ukrainian victory in the adopted law are important, but should not be misleading.
The author calls for a clear distinction among the American political community between the voices of those who really care about the victory of Ukraine and the defeat of Russia, and those who “are trying to package it into the very fact of preserving the state of Ukraine - with 20 percent or more of the territories occupied by the Russian Federation.”
“They don’t even hide the latter - there have been numerous public statements by the current administration that Russia has already strategically lost, Ukraine has already strategically won. That is, they are replacing the concept, equating Ukraine’s victory with its survival. Like, you survived - so this is your victory,” the expert laments.
According to her, there are enough supporters in the United States for the actual surrender of Ukraine.
“The fact that the formula “peace through strength” was reflected in the title of the bill adopted in the package with the Ukrainian “supplement” is an important signal that this approach has supporters. And those who know what discussions on its relevance have been going on in the Republican Party recently will understand why the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova twice separately praised the name of the bill in her messages on social networks.
Indeed, for Ukraine, the embodiment of the formula “peace through strength” is the impossibility of forcing us to “peace” due to the de facto capitulation of Ukraine,” Getmanchuk sums up.
