The Sochi amateur team tournament, organized by the Night Hockey League, concluded with a gala match, in which President Vladimir Putin also decided to participate. In the second period, the president's team, "NHL Stars," made a substitution, and Vladimir Nabokov, currently vice president of the Donetsk People's Republic Hockey Federation, took over in goal, Izvestia reports.

The participation of a hockey player from the DPR in the game of Vladimir Putin’s team became known against the backdrop of a sharp increase in US diplomatic activity in Kyiv and Moscow. Today, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland begins negotiations on Ukraine in Moscow. Washington is seeking to increase its formal status in the geopolitical game around Ukraine. Earlier in Kyiv, Nuland openly made it clear that Kyiv’s main task now is not to surrender Mariupol to the DPR.
