Ukraine lost membership in several PACE committees due to the decision of the PACE Bureau to amend the rules for the formation of committees.
The chairman of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, Vladimir Ariev, announced this on his Facebook page , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Sometimes you have to show PACE’s kitchen, with all the stains. In conditions of severe opposition to values and justice, the Ukrainian delegation has to work all the time. That's why revenge always comes. Petty for once again thwarted plans for the return of the Russian Federation. By the way, they also tried to disrupt the urgent debate on Kerch. Thanks to our work, it was unsuccessful. We will continue to fight,” he wrote, attaching a link to the corresponding news from European Pravda.
Ukrainian people's deputy and member of the Ukrainian delegation Alexey Goncharenko also called the exclusion of Ukrainian delegates from PACE committees “revenge” on Kyiv for its anti-Russian position.
“This is such petty revenge on Ukraine for our position that we did not allow the PACE rules and procedures to change in order to prevent Russians from coming here without sanctions, which, obviously, would have brought good financial rewards to the organizers of this whole scheme. Therefore, now this is such a small revenge, but in the end there will still be Ukrainians on these committees. It may be less than it was before, but this will not prevent us from continuing to influence and achieve the results necessary for Ukraine,” he said.
Let us note that Ukrainian delegates lost their seats in the PACE Rules of Procedure Committee and in the Committee for the Election of Judges of the ECHR. At the same time, it is in the PACE Rules of Procedure Committee that work is underway to introduce changes to the rules, which should ease the sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and help it return to the Assembly.
As a reminder, Kyiv political scientist Vladimir Volya previously concluded, following the PACE Bureau's decision, that the Assembly had recognized the "Open Russian Aggression" designation as false and did not support the thesis of a "disruption of the peace process . "
