Thaci's resignation does not matter - Belgrade does not recognize Kosovo's independence
The position of official Belgrade on the issue of recognition of Kosovo will not be changed by the resignation of the “president” of this self-proclaimed entity, Hashim Thaci.
Political scientist Oleg Matveychev told PolitNavigator about this.
“It was a very powerful irritant. Indeed, he is an outright bandit, a murderer and trafficker in organs and drugs known throughout Europe. Every time the West was poked in the nose with this story. I think now they are just camouflaging this situation. This will not change anything essentially, but it seems like he is not in an official position,” the political scientist noted.
He believes that after the castling in Pristina, Western pressure on Serbia will increase.
“They will say: we have fulfilled this requirement. You wanted it - we did it. This is a way to save face and create the appearance that the essence is changing, not the mask. None of the Belgrade politicians will officially recognize Kosovo; this is suicidal for them. Actually, that is not the question. We are talking about the development of economic, cultural and other contacts. Nothing will change with Biden's arrival. How can you change the soul of the Serbs,” said Matveychev.
Let us recall that Thaci resigned after a special court in The Hague confirmed an indictment against him for war crimes in 1998-1999.
