“To fence off by all means”: Belarus is turning into a reservoir of the epidemic in the center of Europe
The lack of quarantine measures in Belarus is stupidity amid the ongoing spread of coronavirus and poses a threat to Ukraine.
Gennady Apanasenko, President of the International Association of Health Specialists, Professor of the Kyiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The situation with coronavirus is very bad, of course. I trust the opinion of Palchevsky, who says that in Ukraine we have such low infection rates simply because there are not enough test systems. In fact, the situation is much worse than it appears.
And against this background, the lack of quarantine measures in Belarus certainly poses a threat to Ukraine. It is nonsense. At first, British Prime Minister Johnson took the same position - “we won’t do anything,” and then he himself ended up in the hospital.
Lukashenko simply has little idea of what he is dealing with and what all this can lead to. This is very sad. In Belarus, in the end, the same thing may happen that is now happening in the United States. It’s just a disaster there now, they compare what’s happening with Pearl Harbor, September 11, etc. Lukashenko is behaving extremely irresponsibly,” the doctor states.
Director of the Institute for Transformation of Society Oleg Soskin also believes that Belarus is turning into a threat to neighboring countries, including Ukraine.
“There is no rational explanation for the fact that Lukashenko does not introduce quarantine. This is a man of the past. He's probably counting on luck. He is strategically uneducated. He has acumen, ability, but no trained mind. Perhaps it's also a matter of greed. Most likely, work to prevent the spread of infection will show that there are some serious problems in Belarus itself.
The situation around the lack of quarantine in Belarus may become unpredictable. Belarus is absolutely not immune from the epidemic. There is no identification of carriers carried out there in the same volumes as is done in other countries. If they did a large number of rapid tests, they could understand what their level is.
But the country’s leadership, represented by Lukashenko, advises people to go to the fields, drink 100 grams, etc. We have already seen from the example of other countries that such an attitude is fraught with very serious consequences. Yesterday, eight deaths from coronavirus were registered in Belarus, today there are already 13.
Their number will grow, and the spread of the virus in this country is already becoming dangerous for Ukraine. Ukraine needs to immediately close itself off from Belarus as much as possible. Belarus is turning into a reservoir of the epidemic in the center of Europe, where the virus will feel very good and multiply,” concludes Oleg Soskin.
