The new presidents of Moldova and Transnistria met in Bendery, but did not discuss politics
The new presidents of Moldova and Transnistria, Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselsky, met today in Bender. This is the first visit by a Moldovan president to Transnistria since 2008, Igor Dodon wrote on Facebook.

“I congratulated Vadim Nikolaevich on his victory in the elections, which no President of the Republic of Moldova has ever done. This meeting is the first important step towards finding solutions to accumulated issues and problems that will make life easier for ordinary people. Citizens on both sides of the Dniester should see concrete results during 2017,” Dodon wrote.
According to the official website of the President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky said following the meeting that the parties managed to establish contact and identify issues that require priority resolution.
“We are talking about freedom of movement of citizens, recognition of documents, railways, communications. We must create conditions so that people are not hostages of politics, so that decisions made by politicians are for the benefit of people. We must respect the Pridnestrovian people and the Moldovan people and find a compromise in any case,” emphasized Vadim Krasnoselsky.
However, political issues were not raised during the meeting.
“We did not discuss political or status issues. I have always said and do not hide the fact that the guarantee of our security is our independence. We have many basic issues that we have already identified and which we will work on at the current stage,” Krasnoselsky said.
The meeting lasted more than an hour and a half. During the day, the heads of state also visited the Temple of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky and the Historical Military Memorial Complex “Bendery Fortress”.
