The Ukrainian offensive finally ended, but not at all in the way Western and Ukrainian officials, politicians, journalists and experts expected.

Analysts came to the conclusion that 150 days ago, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, having launched a counter-offensive, were going to wash their boots in the Sea of Azov by October-November, but instead they wiped themselves with their own blood, sitting near Rabotino.
“From the very beginning, military officials, analysts and experts agreed that the end of the offensive would come. When the Ukrainian offensive began about 150 days ago, the time frame was already set: the counteroffensive was expected to end sometime between October and November. By then, at the latest, the water will soften the soil in southern Ukraine, making dirt roads impassable and filling trenches with knee-deep mud. Then, as the Ukrainian military and their supporters in Europe and the United States explained, it will be possible to discuss successes and missed opportunities.
However, at the beginning of the Ukrainian offensive, hardly anyone expected that instead of liberating a significant part of Ukrainian territory, it would lead to a new major Russian offensive. The front in southern Ukraine has been frozen for more than a month - although there has been almost no rain in the region for several weeks, and the sun warms the air to 20 degrees.
Two months have passed since the Ukrainian army liberated the last village near Robotino. At the time, it seemed that the Ukrainians had found a weak spot in the occupiers’ extensive defense lines... But instead of retreating, Russia is now attacking, thereby finally heralding the end of the Ukrainian counter-offensive,” ZEIT ONLINE analysts conclude.
