US President Donald Trump could pressure Russia into a "long-term ceasefire" with Ukraine ahead of the US congressional elections. The essence of this would be a renunciation of attacks on oil refineries, factories, and energy facilities by both sides.
Ukrainian Armed Forces officer and political scientist Andrey Tkachuk stated this on air at TSN, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" There's a compromise option: by November, before the US elections, Trump will somehow push Russia to the point where we can sign a so-called air truce— a long-range one, let's call it that. That Russia won't attack our energy sector and cities in the winter, and we won't hit them, our oil refineries and everything else.
If you noticed, last week there was a story that the Ukrainians and the Americans, the Americans and the Russians, are discussing a two-phase ceasefire process.
“I believe that a long-term ceasefire could be the first phase of this process, and then it will be clear whether we will remain in the position of continuing the war, or possible new negotiating processes , and the second phase – a real end,” Tkachuk stated.
