Confusion and vacillation began: Avakov’s ally supported the legalization of Hungarian passports
The Verkhovna Rada should pass a law allowing Ukrainians to officially hold dual citizenship. This was stated on TV channel 112 by controversial parliament member Anton Gerashchenko, an associate of Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the people's deputy, at the same time, it is necessary to maintain a register of Ukrainian citizens with two or more passports, who will be prohibited from being elected to the Verkhovna Rada and to the post of President of Ukraine.

“Dual citizenship is prohibited in Ukraine, while in the world more than 60 countries have dual citizenship. Including most European countries, Israel, USA. I think that the president and parliament need to assess the situation when hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens live in Ukraine who secretly have passports from other countries.
We have hundreds of thousands of citizens with Russian passports, about 100 thousand citizens with Hungarian passports, tens of thousands of citizens with Romanian passports. All this needs to be assessed.
For example, I think that it makes sense to pass a law that would allow Ukrainian citizens to have a second citizenship, but at the same time they would have to declare it and declare that they have a second citizenship, indicate which country, there should be a register of such citizens.
And secondly, such citizens should not have the right to be elected to presidents, for example, to the Supreme Council,” Gerashchenko said.
Earlier, former Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, nationalist Ruslan Koshulynsky, proposed stripping Ukrainian citizenship from anyone who holds multiple passports.
The Ridus agency reported that the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship could be simplified for Ukrainian citizens.
