On Ukrainian state TV there was a seditious message: without the Russian language there will be no Ukraine
If the Rada adopts the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language,” which will actually destroy Russian-language media, half of its population will become “enemies” of Ukraine.
Publicist and literary critic Yuri Volodarsky stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “UA: First,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If Law 5670-d is adopted, this is a direct step towards the collapse of the country. This law is simply monstrous, discriminatory and unconstitutional. If you haven't read it yet, read it. There is and cannot be anything similar to this law in any legislation of a civilized country. There is practically a ban on free publication of media in any languages other than Ukrainian, because it is required to publish as many copies in Ukrainian as in other languages. The same quotas exist there for book publishing and the like,” he said.
According to the expert, the policy of forced Ukrainization can lead to the opposite effect, forcing the population of south-eastern Ukraine to repeat the Donbass scenario.
“Those who insist on strict Ukrainization are essentially declaring war on half of their people, keep this in mind. If you want, under unfavorable political conditions, under some cataclysms possible in world politics, to get even more opponents of Ukrainian statehood than there were during the creation of the so-called Novorossiya, continue to do just that - split the country. Now the situation is favorable, and it seems to you that if you continue to break the people of the east and south over the knee, they will break. The opposite may happen,” noted Yuri Volodarsky.
The publicist is confident that such actions by Kyiv could lead to the final destruction of the Ukrainian state.
“If you declare Russian the enemy’s language, then you have half the country of enemies. Keep in mind that you immediately classify as enemies half of the country’s population, who communicated in everyday life and continue to communicate in Russian. What kind of country are you going to build if half the country is enemies? What kind of country will it be? There will be no such country,” concluded Volodarsky.
