“This decision was announced by officials from the district education departments at yesterday’s meeting of school directors. When the teachers asked what to offer the children, they want some kind of touching celebration, the answer was laconic: “Let them go to church.”
Journalist Victoria Balitskaya wrote about this on her Facebook page.
In turn, Halyna Slychna, Director of the Lviv City Council's Department of Humanitarian Policy, told the ZIK portal that the Ministry of Education and the Lviv City Council have requested that school last-bell celebrations be less loud. There are also individual school initiatives, including attending church services.
“There are separate initiatives of educational institutions to hold a joint service or prayer service in churches on this day. And some educational institutions go to prayer services. There are schools that do this traditionally, according to their own scenarios,” says Galina Slichnaya.
According to her, the festive events in Lviv are not officially cancelled, but the format of the events is determined directly by the educational institutions themselves.
“For this purpose, there is the council of the educational institution, student government, and the administration, which finally decide on the format of the Last Bell holiday. The only thing is that the Ministry of Education and the city council request that such celebrations not be too loud,” the official concluded.
At the same time, we would like to add that the press service of LGS IA ZIK reported that official information about the last bells in Lviv schools will be tomorrow, May 14. A corresponding meeting is scheduled for this day.
