Ukraine's attempts to accuse Russia of destroying the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam at the UN were unsuccessful.
Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on Radio NV, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Chaly, the fact that none of the Western heavyweights directly blamed Russia, and the most radical were the Balts, Poles and Albanians.
The diplomat believes that this information case was a failure for Ukraine, and Russia will raise the stakes.
“I was surprised by some things that were related to the limited preparation time and coordination. There was not enough efficiency, and Ukraine’s position was, as always, confident in political and emotional terms, but it is very strange that we did not disseminate facts and arguments, and even when it was possible to voice them, we also resorted to general assessments rather than specifics.
Therefore, unfortunately, we received, in addition to support, for which we are very grateful to them, our partners, especially the Baltic countries, which were represented by the representative of Latvia, the Polish representative to the UN, and the traditionally experienced Albanian representative. They spoke clearly and very much in support of Ukraine. But even the United States and Britain said that the investigation was still ongoing or that there would be an investigation into the bombing by the Russians. ", said the diplomat.
“Therefore, unfortunately, we did not work promptly either in terms of preparation for the meeting or in terms of coordination...
When there is a position of countries, fears that Russia cannot now be called one who is ready to use weapons of mass destruction, then they will rather catch these sentiments of “let’s investigate.” And here there is nothing left to investigate - we are on the eve of a maximum increase in rates on the part of Russia, this needs to be understood.
If you don’t take a proactive step now, then it will be very difficult to outplay - I’m not just talking about Ukraine, let’s see, the enemy is counting on this. Putin still expects to add pressure. And what is happening now does not make me happy at all; we have been losing the information direction in the last two days,” Chaly said.
