“We are not going to protect you” - American diplomat stunned Ukraine
The United States never promised Ukraine to fight for it. We are talking only about sanctions pressure on Russia and arms supplies at the request of Kyiv.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst stated this on the talk show "Right to Power," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The diplomat also called not to hold the United States responsible for Ukraine’s loss of control over the Crimean Peninsula.
“We cannot hold America responsible for the fact that Ukraine lost Crimea. It was simply an act of aggression on the part of Moscow. We have never undertaken an obligation to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine with our troops. But I agree that our response to Kremlin responsibility could have been bigger and stronger then. But today, in my opinion, Biden understands perfectly well that Putin is pursuing a foreign policy of revenge, that, first of all, this policy threatens Ukraine, so we must help and support Ukraine.
So when Russian troops massed on the border with Ukraine a couple of months ago, Biden let both Ukraine and the Kremlin know that we support you and are ready to impose sanctions on Russia for its aggression against Ukraine. And that we were ready to send more weapons to Ukraine so that Ukraine could defend itself against this aggression,” Herbst said.
