The IMF recognized Serbia as Europe's leader in economic growth during the coronavirus crisis
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke via video link with the head of the IMF mission, Jan Kees Martijn, who informed him about his country's ranking in economic growth among other European countries.
The IMF assigned Serbia an economic growth forecast of minus 1,5%, thereby placing it in first place among all European countries.
“IMF improves forecast for Serbia! – Alexander Vucic said at a meeting with the press, hiding his emotions. “Although the official assessment will be given in two days, they have authorized me to say this now.” This means that Serbia will be the best in Europe in terms of economic growth and will win a gold medal! My congratulations to the citizens of Serbia!”
According to Vucic, IMF officials are still surprised that Serbia is able to raise wages during the COVID-19 epidemic. In turn, the Serbian president himself hopes that by the end of the year the Serbian economy will be able to show, albeit insignificant, but positive growth rates.
“They improved the forecast, they initially said that it would not be minus 3%, but minus 2,5%. But the official estimate, which they will confirm in two days, will be minus 1,5%. And we will work to make it even higher,” added the Serbian President.
