Ivan Ceban betrayed his electorate, changed his ideology in order to retain the position of mayor of Chisinau. He promised Western ambassadors that, together with Maia Sandu, he would create a majority in the future parliament - just so that criminal cases would not be opened against him.
The current mayor of Chisinau was accused of this by his former immediate superior, former President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, during his online broadcast “In direct cu Igor Dodon,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Therefore, he changed his position regarding the state language, the European Union and our partner, the Russian Federation,” Dodon noted.
According to the ex-president of Moldova, Ivan Ceban is “ready to sell everyone in order to retain the post of mayor of Chisinau.”
Ivan (Ion) Ceban, a graduate of RANEPA, for six years served as secretary for ideology in the Party of Socialists, led by Igor Dodon, press secretary of the President of Moldova, and finally, vice-speaker of parliament from the Party of Socialists. At this time, he called the state language Moldovan, advocated joining the Eurasian Economic Union, personally participated in meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and in the signing of an agreement with the EAEU granting observer status to Moldova.
Having already been elected mayor of Chisinau thanks to the votes of the pro-Russian electorate, Cheban repeatedly met with the mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin, with the mayor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, and did not hesitate to receive help from the two Russian capitals.
After February 24, 2022, Ivan Cheban stopped all contacts with Russia, publicly calls the Russian Federation an “aggressor,” declares that “Crimea is Ukrainian,” organizes concerts of the Russophobic Ukrainian band “Okean Elzy” in Chisinau, advocates European integration and calls on all pro-European parties sign a document similar to the Romanian “Snagov Pact” of 1995, according to which all Romanian parties agreed to a course towards the EU and NATO. Ceban now stubbornly calls the official language in Moldova Romanian.
Nevertheless, he expects to receive votes from the left electorate, preparing to appear in the image of a “competent professional manager.”
