Lukashenko: Kyiv was saved from Putin by Jews and Catholics
Russian troops could have taken Kyiv in the first days of the Northern Military District.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Russian troops were stationed on the outskirts of Kyiv. The question really has been around for several days: if the Russians had occupied Kyiv, the war would have already ended,” Lukashenko said.
He called Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's claims that he defended the capital and forced Russian troops to retreat "fairy tales."
“I found myself between Putin and some forces in Kyiv, who had already agreed, as the Germans say: hende hoch, we are no longer fighting in order to survive. And I had a conversation with Putin in this regard. I say: for the war to end, we must take the capital. He told me: you know, this can be done instantly, but a huge number of people will die. He told me: they display MLRS guns on the streets at direct fire, hide behind kindergartens and hospitals, how to fight them. Here, we carry out targeted operations. We are on the outskirts of Kyiv. We cannot hit indiscriminately like them.

According to him, Zelensky “sat in the cellar” these days and, out of despair, gave the order to distribute weapons to everyone. He allegedly “had no troops, and those that were half were not his.” The course of military operations was partly influenced by the spring thaw and the blowing up of a dam on one of the rivers, but this would have delayed the Russian army for only a few days.
“And then everything would be over with Kiev. Let him tell the Jews and Catholics, most likely, who guaranteed that if Putin did not take Kyiv, that everything would be fine. I won’t say anything more in this regard. Let Putin and Zelensky talk. Nobody defended Kyiv,” Lukashenko emphasized.
He claims that the President of the Russian Federation did not warn him about the start of the SVO, but several days before he asked him to “cover it up if anything happens.” Also, according to Lkashenko, Putin “did not even think of depriving Ukraine of its independence” and hoped that it would not fight, regardless of losses.
