Lutsenko admitted that he is ashamed to look into the eyes of Ukrainians
Against the backdrop of officials receiving extremely high incomes, for many Ukrainian citizens meat is a luxury.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko stated this on the YouTube channel of Kyiv journalist and TV presenter Dmitry Gordon, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Neither when I was in parliament, nor when within the walls of the prosecutor’s office, nothing changed. Same car, same nice house. But her [wife's] business did provide money. We honestly showed a couple of hundred thousand dollars in the declaration, and I honestly show what seem to me to be huge salaries in today’s Ukraine.
I thought for a long time about how I could look people in the eyes for whom meat is often a luxury. How can I look into the eyes of the soldiers who lie in a cold trench, knowing that the family does not have a worthy gift for the children, for example, cannot buy an iPhone or some kind of vacation in the summer. It’s wrong to say that I should receive 2000 salaries like everyone else,” Lutsenko said.
“I believe that any civil servant should work without thinking about the possibility of looking for other sources. And yet, I am ashamed. This is how my father raised me. He said that a politician without empathy, without shame is a defective politician,” added the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
