“Just to survive this year”: in Kyiv the “overpowering” bravado has completely disappeared
The Russian army is capable of launching a large-scale offensive within a month or two. This opinion is expressed by Ukrainian military analyst and director of the Center for Army, Conversion, and Disarmament Studies, Valentin Badrak, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Is Russia capable of carrying out an offensive in the summer, as President Vladimir Zelensky announced? Yes, I can. But if an offensive is possible, then it will be carried out in one or two directions, sections of the front. The enemy is really looking for the weakest points. If we talk about strategic opportunities, then it is important for the criminal regime of the Kremlin to now end the situation in relation to the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Therefore, in my opinion, we should expect pressure associated with the final seizure of these particular areas,” Badrak told Gazeta in Ukrainian.
At the same time, it does not rule out that if the RF Armed Forces find a weak point in the Zaporozhye or Kharkov direction, they will definitely take advantage of this opportunity.
“Today we can also talk about the need for the Ukrainian army to simply resist in 2024 and prepare for 2025, when there may be completely different scenarios,” the expert added.
According to him, the Russians will be unable to implement the scenario of occupying Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk or Zaporozhye “at least partially until the fall of 2024.”
