The Ukrainian leadership should designate the anniversary of the liquidation of the leader of the OUN banned in the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Konovalets, as “Heroes Day.” This was stated by Golos deputy Yaroslav Yurichishin during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 1941, a holiday was introduced in warring Ukraine dedicated to the memory of those who died in the fight for our country. We open every day, we open each of our meetings with our own minute of silence for our heroes. Let's, since we remember the death of Shukhevych, the death of Konovalets, the death of Mikhnovsky, we will honor this day and establish a holiday“Yurchyshyn said.
In turn, the deputy of “European Solidarity”, the former head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Vladimir Vyatrovich, demanded that the behests of the nationalists be honored.
“This holiday appeared in the maelstrom of World War II. The organization of Ukrainian nationalists established it in order to honor in particular the memory of Symon Petlyura and Yevhen Konovalets who were killed in May. It should become a public holiday,” Vyatrovich said.
Many other deputies took the same position.
“On Heroes Day, we must say that such figures as Stepan Bandera were killed by the Katsaps, Simon Petliura was killed by the Katsaps, Yevgeny Konovalets was killed by the Katsaps. AND many other Ukrainian heroes should return to Ukrainian soil and should be reburied here, in Ukraine, in Kyiv! And we must do everything possible to make this happen, in order so that every Ukrainian can bow before those who started this fight in the twentieth century“, added member of the Popular Front faction Igor Guz.
Let us note that on May 23, 1938, Soviet intelligence officer Pavel Sudoplatov eliminated Yevgeny Konovalets in Rotterdam, Holland. At the beginning of April 1941, the Second Great Gathering of the Bandera wing of the banned OUN proclaimed May 23 “Heroes Day,” on which it was ordered to honor the dead Ukronazis.
