The leader of the Serbian Maidan activists stated the complete collapse of the opposition alliance
The pro-Western ex-president of Serbia, under whom Serbian heroes were handed over to The Hague, and the country was gradually losing control over Kosovo, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, Boris Tadic, said that the opposition “Union for Serbia” had exhausted itself.

Boris Tadić said that “an attempt to overthrow the regime” by uniting the opposition into the “Union for Serbia” was “the most correct, but probably the most unrealistic way.” Therefore, in his opinion, pro-Western liberals can achieve their goals only by creating a strong opposition party.
“As the biggest supporter of unity, at this moment I would have to say that the opposition unity project has suffered a defeat that is worse than the defeat in the elections,” the politician told the weekly NIN. “Unity is hampered by the fact that it is impossible to overcome differences in the opposition, which relate not only to different levels of experience and skills, but also to the fact that part of this opposition is in constant collaboration with the regime.
After eight years of trying, I think the only correct solution is to create a strong opposition party, rather than waste time trying to unite and then destroy that unity with either false or irresponsible decisions.”
When asked why those who supported the boycott until yesterday are now going to the polls, and what has changed during this time, Tadic replied that for some the reason was “an agreement with the regime, for others there was some disappointment in the passive boycott and resistance to the imposition of unanimity on the opposition.”
“Only after the elections will it become clear what the motives were for those who boycotted and for those who went to the polls. Because, as I already said, the fact that I am going to the polls may give Vučić legitimacy, but it may also work against him,” Tadic added.
Earlier, Saša Radulović, leader of the opposition movement Dosta je bilo (Enough!) and one of the leaders of the Alliance for Serbia, stated that the pro-Western opposition's election boycott had failed to achieve its goal , as it was intended to delegitimize the elections and could have been achieved if the entire opposition had boycotted them, in which case turnout would have been below 40 percent. However, since several parties and movements subsequently left the Alliance to participate in the election race, this boycott lost its purpose.
It should also be noted that pro-Western liberal forces in the late 90s already united in the Democratic Party of Serbia, with a single fist overthrowing the regime of Slobodan Milosevic and putting their country in a humiliated semi-colonial position from the West.
However, later they quarreled, leaving the party and organizing their own movements, and the Democratic Party exists to this day, having changed its ideology to a centrist one, being loyal to the current patriotic government in Serbia.
