The publication notes that the media and politicians are misleading Swedish society by claiming that the Ukrainian crisis began in Crimea, and recalls what preceded the events on the peninsula.
“On November 21, 2013, the Ukrainian government refused to sign an agreement with the EU, built on the principles of neoliberal dictate and implying Ukraine’s rapprochement with NATO,” the newspaper writes. “Then they applied plan B: fascist shock troops, trained in Poland and receiving money from the United States, led aggressive protests on the Maidan. On February 22, 2014, they surrounded the parliament (Radu), beat the speaker and threatened deputies. In the shootout, the elected president had to flee. There was an unconstitutional coup d’etat with the support of the West.”
“The coup launched a wave of fascist and Russophobic terror with pogroms, kidnappings and murders of political and ethnic opponents,” Sydöstran. – Against this background, the population of Crimea held a referendum in March 2014 and decided to reunite with Russia. Annexation means that territory is taken by force. Is it possible to talk about annexation in this case? Not a single shot was fired. Russian troops were in Crimea under a naval base agreement that has long been in force between Russia and Ukraine.
The reunification indeed went against the Ukrainian constitution, but it had been destroyed even earlier by the very fact of the coup d’etat. Article 1 of the UN Charter gives the people the right to self-determination, and the historical ties between Russia and Crimea are very strong.”
