The Constitutional Court of Ukraine will deal with church raiding
The Verkhovna Rada, by adopting the law on the subordination of religious communities , committed a gross violation of the Constitution of Ukraine.
Deputy Vadim Novinsky stated this during a parliamentary meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Yesterday, in gross violation of the constitutional procedure, personal voting and regulations, bill 4128-D was adopted, which legalizes the raiding of churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Numerous cases of button-mashing were recorded in the session hall during crude attempts to push it through parliament. In addition, as a basis and in general, only bills that do not require modification can be put to a vote, but we have announced that there are amendments to it.
Please note that the text of bill 16-D, registered on January 4128 of this year, first appeared at a meeting of the relevant committee in the evening, as if finalized by the committee. But a bill can be sent to a committee for revision only after voting in the session hall on behalf of the Verkhovna Rada.
The text of the document did not contain the conclusions of the scientific expert department and the Ukrainian Council of Churches. People's deputies did not have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with it, which is a violation of Article 112 of the regulations.
Under such circumstances, the document was urgently brought into the hall, which means the law on the raider seizure of churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was adopted in violation of the Constitution.
By the resolution of the “Opposition Bloc” to cancel the voting results, we demand that the Speaker consider it according to the full procedure and re-vote in compliance with the law. In case of refusal, we will appeal to the Constitutional Court with an appropriate representation,” the parliamentarian threatened.
At the same time, MP from the Opposition Bloc Mikhail Papiev noted that his faction hedged its bets and adopted a fourth protest resolution, which, even if the previous three were canceled, would not allow Speaker Andrei Parubiy to sign the previously adopted law.
Nevertheless, Speaker Andrei Parubiy ignored the arguments of the parliamentarians and, after three failed votes for the Opposition Bloc’s resolutions to repeal the law, he solemnly signed it in the presence of all the deputies.
