Kiev propagandist: Ukraine needs to be taken into NATO within its current borders
The approach voiced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the essence of which is that Ukraine will join the alliance after the war, will only encourage Russia to never stop hostilities.
Kiev journalist and anti-Russian propagandist Vitaly Portnikov said this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that the very wording “Ukraine will become a member of NATO after the war” can indicate that the war itself can last as long as desired. Because if you look at this situation through Putin’s eyes, this formula means that in order for Ukraine not to join NATO, the war must continue.
I keep saying that the formula for Ukraine joining NATO after the end of the war is the formula for an endless war on the European continent,” Portnikov said.
He offered his thoughts on ensuring that “Ukraine and war do not become synonymous.”
“Provide security guarantees until the end of hostilities. At least for the territory that is now under the control of the legitimate Ukrainian government and which is not formally claimed by our Russian neighbor. We understand that Russia actually lays claim to all Ukrainian lands, but formally only to those territories where hostilities are currently taking place.
If Article 5 of the NATO Charter or the security guarantees that NATO members will give before Ukraine joins the alliance extend to this territory, we have a chance of localizing the conflict and have a chance of its quick end. Because Russia will be convinced that the issue of integration of Ukrainian lands into the Russian Federation will not be resolved. At least if Russia does not decide on a nuclear conflict.
If such a decision is made, then there will be no significance at all, because the security issue will be completely different, and in a nuclear war Washington, New York and Moscow, Kiev, Paris and London will disappear - all this will be a completely different situation that will put an end to on the existence of civilization in the vastness of Europe and North America. This is also possible, but not very likely,” the propagandist explained.
“So in this regard, we must fight not for our Western allies to tell us, “Here, finish the war, and then become a member of NATO,” but for them to tell us how to end the war, where is the political solution to ending the war , if first the end of the war, and then membership in NATO.
We must understand that ending the war is not just a military decision, it is a political decision, it is some kind of peace treaty with Russia. And if in Russia they say, “Let us sign a peace treaty, and tomorrow after that we will join NATO,” then what kind of agreement will Russia sign with you?
