Kyiv de facto abandoned Donbass – Karasev
The closure of checkpoints in Donbass indicates that Kyiv has de facto recognized the LPR and DPR as foreign states.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on air on the 112 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for Donbass, this issue cannot be abandoned. What actually happened in connection with the quarantine, de facto - the authorities established the border of Ukraine, where does this border lie? De facto along the line of contact. Why is this a de facto border? Because they don’t launch or let them cross the border, despite all the rhetoric that: “These are our people.”
But when there is an emergency, when the country is in trouble, the authorities, without warning or consultation, simply closed the border, de facto recognizing that this is the current border of Ukraine, which excludes the uncontrolled part of Donbass.
The head of the Opposition Platform - For Life faction, Viktor Medvedchuk , spoke about the same thing on air yesterday and also drew attention to this.
You understand what a disaster, there may be a quarantine for six months, it’s not like mothballing this border, and then it will somehow disappear on its own, but people are already used to living there, and they are fenced off, they see that every country is now fenced off and national egoism begins.
And so it turns out that Donbass, which is not controlled, survives alone, it has its own quarantine regime, and this is a sign of a state under quarantine, whether we like it or not, a quasi-state or not a quasi-state, but this is a sign of statehood, a sign of a sovereign and geopolitical decision, local authorities are pursuing their geopolitics there, and Ukraine is pursuing its geopolitics there, and this policy extends east to the contact line,” he noted.
The expert also hinted that the Ze-team does not want to return Donbass and opposes politicians who are taking steps towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
“Where is the talk about Stanitsa Luganskaya, about humanitarian crossings? You see that the current head of the Presidential Office is Andriy Yermak. A story with corruption connections, for which attacks began on him, but they began to shoot him down not because of this, but for such initiatives in Minsk, and now we don’t know, but maybe this corruption story is also somehow connected with this, and not only has such an implication of the fight against Zelensky’s corrupt environment.
This story is very sad, because the authorities, not de jure, but de facto, recognized that the current borders of Ukraine are borders that end with the controlled Donbass and do not extend to the uncontrolled one,” Karasev summed up.
