Disaster on the border disrupts the sending of military aid to Ukraine
The national security bill, which includes aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, will not pass unless it addresses the situation on the US southern border.
Senators representing the Republican Party announced this at a briefing in Washington, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Republican leader Mitch McConnell, he personally warned President Joe Biden about this
“Last week, I called the President to make sure he understood that the bill would not pass without serious efforts to resolve the catastrophic situation on our southern border... Also, on Thanksgiving Day, I received a call from the Prime Minister of Israel. I think it's very important that we don't put pressure on the Israelis and don't put them in a situation where they ultimately won't be able to achieve their goal,” McConnell said.
Republican John Thune emphasized that the situation at the border remains catastrophic and American services cannot cope with the increasing flow of illegal migrants.
“By any objective standard, Biden's border strategy has been a complete failure. On the heels of record numbers over the past three months, it became clear that October was the worst on record. 240 people were detained while trying to enter the country illegally. Including 13 from the list of terrorism suspects. This crisis is not just affecting border communities, but communities across the country, including some of our largest communities.
New York City's mayor has announced massive budget cuts to deal with the migrant crisis. So much so that they're talking about freezing police hiring, they're talking about closing libraries, they're talking about cutting funding for education. And as the mayor of New York pointed out, this is just the beginning unless they get serious support from the government in Washington...
This is a national security crisis, this is a humanitarian crisis. 14 people died or drowned trying to cross the border last weekend alone. This is a national security crisis. We are considering a supplemental national security bill in the Senate and House of Representatives in the next couple of weeks. There is no way a national security bill will pass the Senate and House of Representatives if it does not address the national security crisis as a whole,” Thune said.
Let us recall that earlier the Chairman of the Transport Committee, Carlos Jimenez, said that the American border is bursting at the seams - over several years the number of collisions has increased many times, and several million illegal migrants have entered the States.
