The consequences of the Maidan of 2014 are such that impoverished and desperate people are now incapable of a social explosion.

Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on air on Channel 112, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“There is no need to exaggerate the possibility of a social explosion. Because the poor do not rise to social protests. People rise up when there is some improvement. Now there may be so many local explosions, but there won’t be a general, new Maidan,” the expert said.

“The first and second Maidans were out of hope. There was hope that we would do something new, but now people are dominated by a feeling of despair. Maidan does not happen out of despair. There are some blind riots that are easily stopped by the authorities or quickly fade away,” added Vadim Karasev.
