Candidate Norbert Hoffer, who advocated lifting sanctions against Russia, lost the Austrian presidential election. Such preliminary voting data reported Austrian publication Kurier.
Hoffer is on Facebook already congratulated with the victory of his rival, a supporter of the country’s previous foreign policy, Alexander Van der Bellen.

Hoffer was an opponent of Islamic migration to the country, was critical of sanctions against Russia, allowed recognition of Russian Crimea and welcomed the election of Trump.
The election campaign took place in Austria for almost a year and in three stages. A "third round" was called for after Hoffer challenged Ballen's narrow victory in the second ballot.
