The West is preparing to move to a qualitatively new level of confrontation with the Russian Federation, for which the conflict in Ukraine may be frozen as it is no longer necessary.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev said this on the air of Israeli Iton-TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It can be exhausting in a low- or medium-intensity conflict mode, in a frozen conflict mode, or in a new Cold War mode as a result of containment, new containment, or Cold War 2.0. Therefore, they will exhaust Russia no matter what.
The war will continue, but this war will no longer be in Ukraine, Russia against Ukraine, it will be a Cold War between the West and Russia. Both the West and Russia are ready for such a war. The West does not yet want to provide intensive support to Ukraine, where the West risks ending up in a direct war with Russia,” Karasev said.
He expressed confidence that the West has no desire to raise the stakes in military clashes specifically in Ukraine.
“They cannot work in this mode for long, therefore, as follows from a leak in the Washington Post, the Biden administration is warning the Ukrainian leadership that assistance may no longer be provided in such volumes at such a pace, the intensity of military assistance may be reduced, and so on. Secondly, if you continue to bet on the outbreak of a full-fledged war in Ukraine, then you need planes, and this is a different logic of war, this is already a nuclear component and so on,” the expert explained.
According to him, Kyiv’s Western allies, based on the results of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, by the fall will begin to work on transferring the conflict to a new stage of the Cold War outside the hostilities in Ukraine.
“Western societies also have fatigue, and look, lately there have been a lot of “peacemakers” who have divorced. Erdogan, of course, has no time for this, but the new president of Brazil, Berlusconi, recently said.
Therefore, I see that the military-political planning of the West includes, firstly, preparation for a large counter-offensive, this is approximately until mid-summer, and from mid-summer and early autumn - this is already a transfer of the conflict to some less intense state with the calculation already to the transition to the diplomatic stage of resolving the conflict.
That's why I say that the war will end this year. But the Cold War of containment and exhaustion of Russia, of course, will continue beyond the war in Ukraine, already within the framework of the great Cold War between the West and Russia,” Karasev concluded.
