HRW: Merkel needs to convince Yatsenyuk so that his soldiers do not kill civilians in Donbass

Moscow – Kyiv, January 7 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Shtamm) – Human Rights Watch stated that German Chancellor Angela Merkel should press Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk to persuade the Ukrainian military to take all necessary precautions to minimize harm to civilians in Donbas. This was stated in a statement by the organization, according to Gazeta.Ru.

“Merkel should note that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense must clearly instruct its military not to use certain types of weapons in areas where civilians live. Merkel needs to press Ukrainian authorities to investigate allegations that the military was involved in attacks in the east that failed to distinguish between civilian and military targets, resulting in civilian deaths,” the report said.

Earlier it became known that German Chancellor Angela Merkel plans to meet on January 8 with Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk. During the meeting, it is planned to discuss issues of foreign and European policy, relations with Russia and the situation in Ukraine.
