Borders are nothing: Kharkov is as Russian as Belgorod or Ryazan - Kholmogorov
There is no difference between the two Russian cities of Kharkov and Belgorod, founded as outposts of the Russian Empire, therefore all current borders with Ukraine are only symbolic.
Publicist Yegor Kholmogorov stated this on Radio Sputnik, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Kholmogorov emphasized that the current cities that are part of Ukraine appeared there only in the USSR, but these borders exist only on maps.
“It is our own fault for the wrong propaganda all these years, all these decades. There is no such border. There is no difference between Kharkov and Belgorod; these are cities that arose almost simultaneously in the Russian kingdom, intended for the same purpose - to protect against nomadic raids from the Crimea and so on. That is, these are twin cities, satellite cities of each other. And the fact that they were separated by a border is an absurdity and a joke.
Now I always urge, when I write on Telegram, when I speak somewhere, our government, those who make decisions, to stop thinking about this Ukrainian border. Of course, this is difficult for us to do, because we are not young people who grew up with Soviet atlases, where the Russian Federation was painted pink, the Ukrainian SSR was colored green, and Belarus was also blue.
And so, it’s very difficult for us to give up this semaphore. And he is imaginary, he is made up. When people say: “Why do I need Kharkov, why do I need Dnepropetrovsk, which is Ekaterinoslav, and so on?”, I say: “Why do you need Ryazan? Why do you need Tula, why do you need Penza? There's no difference. And here, in this sense, it seems to me that you cannot be tied to the border at all,” Kholmogorov concluded.
