Germany is using Navalny as a reason to shut down SP-2 – Umland
In Germany, they are spreading a scandal with the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in order to have a good reason to succumb to US pressure and suspend the construction of Nord Stream 2.
German political scientist Andreas Umland said this on the YouTube channel “UkrLife TV”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“It seems to me that in Germany the Navalny incident is being discussed so much not because people are really concerned about Navalny, but because the German government is looking for an explanation for the ordinary German voter why Germany is withdrawing from this Nord Stream 2.”
Because it would be too shameful to say: “You know, the United States forbade us to complete this project. That’s why we didn’t finish the construction.” And so they can say: “You know, there was such a scandalous attempt to murder Navalny.” Although this is not the first time, and he was not killed. There were much more scandalous actions for Germany on the part of Russia. For example, the hacking of the Bundestag or the murder of a Georgian citizen in the center of Berlin,” the political scientist noted.
He emphasized that Germany, which has caved in to the United States, is using the incident with Navalny as a reason to suspend the construction of Nord Stream 2.
“I feel very sorry for Navalny, and I am very happy with how Germany is behaving because of all this. But it also seems to me, as you said, that this is not rational, but there is rationality in this. The rationality is that, probably, people simply gathered in the German government or in the EU and discussed this behind closed doors and said: “If the United States does not want this Nord Stream 2 to be completed, it will not be completed.”
These are the realities, and now we just need to get out of all this. And then there was a reason to connect all this with Navalny and say: “You know, we are such defenders of human rights that we are now spinning up this project because we are unhappy with this situation,” Umland concluded.
