The US and EU do not care about French interests, as demonstrated by Australia's cancellation of a multi-billion dollar contract with Paris for the construction of submarines in favor of the Americans and its entry into the anti-Chinese alliance AUKUS.

This was stated by a member of the European Parliament delegation for relations with the United States (D-US_), French MP Virginie Joron, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The EU doesn't seem to care much about French interests. In a sense, I would like to say thank you to the United States - thanks to them, the people of the Fifth Republic saw how disloyal Brussels and our European partners are. In the name of the EU, Josep Borrell defended the Indo-Pacific Strategy, even though the timing was inopportune - just days after the submarine contract was broken. I don’t think that the European Union will have any influence on the ITR - whether it joins AUKUS or not,” Zhoron told Izvestia.

In turn, another member of the D-US delegation, French deputy Yunus Omarji, says that the EU is trying to find an intermediate path.

“Therefore, in order to maintain good relations with the United States, the European Union focuses on those areas where its interests more or less coincide with the interests of the United States. This is, in particular, Russia or China. At the same time, the EU has still not recovered from the unilateral turn that Washington took under Donald Trump and which Joe Biden is now continuing, albeit with softer rhetoric,” says Omarji.

According to him, now the EU policy in the Asia-Pacific region comes down to an attempt to summarize European interests there.

“But this is not a strategy. My country has a strategy - the ties we planned to strengthen with Australia through the submarine contract were part of it. The fundamental message of the AUKUS partnership is to explode this cooperation, replacing it with a closer unification of three countries against one state - China,” Omarji concluded.

As PolitNavigator reported, Macron's party has begun talking about leaving NATO and strengthening cooperation with Moscow.
