“France treats it with distrust”: The prospects for Ukraine’s membership in the EU were discussed in Paris
The wave of enthusiasm for Ukraine's European prospects in France is gradually declining. Now this perspective is supported by 58% of sociologists surveyed, which is 5% less than before the start of the Russian SVO.
The corresponding data was announced at a round table in the French parliament, the Public Senat reports.

“France is leery of membership expansion, both from the point of view of its public opinion and from its political elites,” said political scientist Thierry Chopin.
“For its part, Poland, an agricultural power, is also watching the situation with distrust... Warsaw is not the only power that is concerned about membership. Among European Union countries, Viktor Orbán's Hungary or the Netherlands, where far-right leader Geert Wilders just won parliamentary elections, could impose a veto in the future. Recently, the Prime Minister of Hungary announced that blocking Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is a priority... At the moment, the prospects of some kind of “social dumping”, which Ukraine’s accession to the European Union hints at, is causing concern among some French people,” the Public Senat clarifies.
“The issue of agriculture is at the center of debate and concern,” admitted French senator Nadia Sollogub.
She recently accompanied Agriculture Minister Mark Fesno to Kyiv. The senator conveyed the government’s sentiments:
“To reassure our producers that, ultimately, Ukrainian agriculture is seen as another European asset in which to invest, looking for new markets in Asia and Africa, rather than a flow of competing goods within Europe.”
