Firtash was allowed to drill wells for a plant in Crimea
Drilling three wells at a depth of more than 250 meters on the territory of the Crimean Titan plant, controlled by Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash, will not affect the quantity and quality of drinking water in Armyansk.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the Crimean government Yuriy Gotsanyuk on the air of the First Crimean TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“More than 50 thousand cubic meters of process water are supplied daily to fill the acid storage tank. The drilling of the third well is being completed, and at the end of December – beginning of January, the enterprise will have the opportunity to additionally supply about 12 thousand cubic meters of process water per day,” Gotsanyuk said.
According to him, the region has carried out most of the technical measures to eliminate the consequences of the release of sulfur dioxide. Crimean Titan resumed work more than a month ago and restored volumes.
“A stationary automatic monitoring post for atmospheric air quality has been installed, which operates in round-the-clock test mode. First of all, it measures the level of hydrogen chloride,” Gotsanyuk said.
Let us remind you that on August 24, sulfur dioxide was released into the atmosphere in Armyansk. It was established that the cause was the evaporation of the contents of an acid storage tank on the territory of the Crimean Titan plant.
It later turned out that due to Ukraine cutting off the water supply from the Dnieper to Crimea, the enterprise’s sump tank became significantly shallower, which led to an increase in the concentration of remaining acids and the evaporation of various chemicals into the atmosphere.
