Europe is not going to freeze: Nord Stream 2 will be turned on at full capacity - German expert
The directive that Gazprom will be able to fill no more than 50 percent of the volume of Nord Stream 2, leaving the other half to an independent supplier, will be bypassed by Europeans, if necessary, without even thinking about it.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr said this via video link from Berlin on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As I understand it, the European Energy Charter stipulates that the gas pipeline on the Russian side be filled to only 50 percent, and this is almost the only condition, and what the Ukrainians are now insisting on, but, as far as I know, your gas storage facilities are also empty, and you will have nowhere to go,” noted TV presenter Olga Skabeeva.
“As soon as the winter gets cold, and it will be cold, Europeans very quickly forget about these directives. This, by the way, was the case with Nord Stream 1. They also said that it can only be loaded at 50 percent, and then when Europe needs gas, and there are no other great opportunities to purchase gas (true, we get gas from Norway, through Turkey, but American liquefied gas does not yet come here in such volumes ), of course we will need Russian gas.
And it is better to receive it from Russia, violating this directive, making certain exceptions, than to freeze. And this, in my opinion, is the logic of things,” Rahr replied.
