The EU and the US forced Ukrainians to support Western producers – Suslov
Ukraine should pursue a protectionist policy towards its producers, but the state does not protect them by purchasing imported goods, and the West supports it in this.
Viktor Suslov, former Minister of Economy of Ukraine, announced this on the NASH TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“This (protectionism) is the most important thing. From what has been done and gives some chances (though it has not been completed and probably will not be completed) is an attempt to pass a law that would establish that the funds of our state budget allocated for public procurement should be spent mainly on procurement Ukrainian-made goods. The localization law, which is in the Verkhovna Rada and which all our foreign creditors immediately actively opposed, and the EU made a separate statement.
We are talking about any goods that are purchased with funds from our state budget. For example, in our draft budget for next year. The government is proud that we will renew worn-out railway cars, and has planned to purchase, say, hundreds of cars. But we could buy Ukrainian cars, because Ukraine is one of the largest producers of cars.
The carriages must be purchased exclusively from Ukraine. Let us remember: under Poroshenko, a billion dollars were spent on the purchase of American electric locomotives from General Electric. Why not Ukrainian? Let us remember: under Poroshenko, 550 million euros were spent on the purchase of (even) used French helicopters.
Our Motor Sich has launched the production of Ukrainian helicopters, but we do not buy Ukrainian ones. Therefore, for now, funds from our state budget will not be spent on purchasing products from Ukrainian enterprises. And we will not get out of this situation,” concluded Viktor Suslov.
