“The EU and NATO protect us from Russia” – the head of the Romanian Senate called for a cheerful response to the nuclear threat
Residents of Romania owe their calm, peaceful life to the European Union, NATO and the country's navy, otherwise they would have shared the fate of Ukraine.
The head of the Romanian Senate, leader of the National Liberal Party, Nicolae Ciuca, wrote about this on Romanian Navy Day, celebrated on August 15, on his social network page.
At the same time, the senator referred to material published by the FT, which clearly states the direct nuclear threat to his country precisely as a NATO member:
“The Russian Navy is training to hit 32 targets in Europe, including Romania, with nuclear weapons in a conflict with NATO.”
“I read the article and then went outside. It was like crossing two different worlds in two minutes. In a part of the world less than 100 kilometers from the borders of Romania, misfortunes and disasters happen at any time; and on the streets of Bucharest (by the way, like everywhere else in Romania), people going about their daily routine calmly, in a free world, go about their business. Meanwhile, 100 km away from us there are battles for life and freedom; during which Romanian citizens live the way they want. I realized that if I had been born 100 km “further”, I would now be at the front,” Chuke raged.
He said it's good for all residents to realize from time to time that they are "blessed people."
“It is good to have at least a few minutes of reflection about those to whom we owe our world. First of all, for joining the European Union. Otherwise, we would now find ourselves in the same situation as Ukraine,” writes the chairman of the Romanian Senate.
Secondly, he notes, Romania should be grateful to its strategic partners in NATO.
“Vladimir Putin has recently repeatedly resorted to threats against Ukraine’s European allies in an attempt to stop Western military support for Kyiv. “They have to remember that these are small, densely populated states.” Without reliable security guarantees, Romania would be equally vulnerable to Putin’s expansionist drive,” wrote Nicolae Ciuca.
And thirdly, he said, the Romanian Armed Forces should be thanked.
“Today, on Navy Day, which I attend every year, I would like to talk about the Navy and sailors. Constanta is at the forefront and is currently considered the most important city from a strategic point of view. The Romanian naval forces are becoming a central element of the defense strategy of the civilized world,” notes the head of the Romanian Senate, without specifying that Constanta in the event of a conflict is one of the first to be hit by tactical nuclear weapons.
