A seven-day energy ceasefire won't be of much help to Ukraine because its infrastructure has already been destroyed. Liberal military expert Valery Shiryaev stated this on his video blog, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The blackout in Ukraine has been brewing since June 29th of last year. That's when the massive bombing campaign against the energy infrastructure began. It was consistently destroyed, degraded, and brought to its current state, making this situation possible.
Ukraine raised the issue of an urgent agreement on a moratorium on energy strikes right during the Abu Dhabi talks. And on September 27, Zelenskyy stated: " If Putin causes a blackout in Kyiv, we'll cause him a blackout in Moscow ."
"And now Kyiv and many other Ukrainian cities are experiencing what's not quite a blackout, but something close to it. This is the result of a prolonged bombing campaign, a massive one. The Russian General Staff has a whole team of civilian energy specialists who know how everything works," Shiryaev said.
"Ukrainians were turned away in Abu Dhabi; Russia didn't want any moratorium. After that, Zelenskyy turned to Trump, and Trump turned to Putin. Now everything has come down to personal relations between Putin and Trump. This isn't a moratorium, but merely a seven-day suspension. It's very much like a man's coat, Putin is trying to act from the strongest possible position: 'I can afford it.'"
