Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the US: We agreed to negotiations without a ceasefire – it's a disaster
Ukraine should never have agreed to peace talks without first achieving a complete ceasefire.
As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on the air of the video blog "There is a Question."
"We made a catastrophic mistake by abandoning the priority of a ceasefire and a ceasefire. It's clear that negotiations should be held after the ceasefire. I believe that agreeing to talk about peace while the war continues was a very serious mistake," the diplomat said.
According to him, Donald Trump initially held the same position, to which the presenter remarked that he changed his mind after Alaska.
"What difference does it make that he changed his mind? It wasn't him who changed his mind; he was just conveying what Putin wanted. And why didn't we play it right in this situation by supporting America's position? Of course we could have.
"What kind of negotiations are we talking about now? If we see groups on military issues, are those negotiations? Do they have some kind of mandate? None," the Ukrainian diplomat worried.
He predicts that Russia will use the energy ceasefire to stockpile missiles, after which it will continue to launch strikes.
