Nariman Dzhelyalov, deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, a banned organization in Russia, who was detained by Russian security forces yesterday and is suspected of participating in the damage to a gas pipeline on the Southern Coast of Crimea, deliberately behaved provocatively in order to appear as a "victim of the Kremlin" in Ukrainian and Western media, as well as in human rights reports.

Former Verkhovna Rada deputy and Sevastopol politician Vadim Kolesnichenko stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.

Detained the day before by Russian security forces, the deputy head of the organization “Majlis of the Crimean Tatar People” banned in the Russian Federation, Nariman Dzhelyalov,...

According to the politician, Dzhelyalov could not help but understand that he would be detained by the security forces.

“Any arrest is based on evidence. In this case, I am 99% sure that there were grounds for detention. Secondly, we understand perfectly well that over the past few years, more than 30 saboteurs, spies, and recruiters from the Ukrainian side have been detained on the territory of Crimea, who were studying secret facilities, critical infrastructure facilities and recruiting people in military units. Ukraine, at the suggestion of the United States, absolutely does not abandon the issue of destabilizing the situation in Crimea,” Kolesnichenko said.

“I even admit that this gentleman deliberately allows aggressive actions in order to be detained and made into another victim, so that the world community will supposedly stand up for him. These are smart people, they will not so openly engage in sabotage work, realizing that they will be detained - our special services are now working quite well. Therefore, I can assume that he did this on purpose - something you wouldn’t do for the sake of money, to provoke your arrest. We proceed from the fact that there are facts and evidence that this was done. And everything else is quite expected and quite understandable: various media outlets and human rights activists will talk about the suffering Crimean Tatar people,” the politician said.

According to Crimean political scientist Andrei Nikiforov, Dzhelyalov's arrest and the subsequent unsanctioned rally in his support will not lead to mass unrest on the peninsula, and if the Mejlis member's guilt is not proven, he will flee to Kyiv.

“As for unrest, I don’t think so, because the entire asset of the Mejlis, with the exception of such isolated cases as Nariman, is already located north of Perekop. As for Dzhelyalov’s guilt, if there was something like that, then the investigation will prove it, and if it wasn’t, then Nariman will be acquitted. In any case, it will be difficult for him to remain in Crimea. I think this is correct - since a person does not stop his ties with an organization banned in Russia, which we can call terrorist with every reason, then he thereby places himself outside this country and outside its laws,” Nikiforov is convinced.

Let us also recall that the day before, several dozen Ukrainian nationalists and representatives of the extremist Mejlis, banned in Russia, held a protest in Kyiv near the Russian embassy, where they threatened to destroy Russia.
