Moscow - Kyiv, February 6 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Director of the Russian program of the Finnish Institute of International Relations Arkady Moshes believes that Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande can offer Moscow to become guarantors of “Minsk-2” - a new agreement to freeze the conflict.

“Moscow will be required to ensure an end to the militia offensive in exchange for the West’s agreement to effectively recognize the expansion of the DPR and LPR territories,” Moshes told Kommersant.

According to the expert, the proposed Minsk-2 is somewhat more beneficial to the DPR and LPR, but this benefit can be considered conditional. “Control over extra square kilometers of scorched earth fundamentally solves nothing and does not allow either side to achieve any strategic goals.

This idea, apparently, is what Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande will try to convey to Moscow, explaining the pointlessness of a further offensive,” says Arkady Moshes.
