Former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine: The West is forcing us to accept the loss of Crimea
Western demands to implement the Minsk Agreements will lead to Ukraine being forced to come to terms with the loss of Crimea and the emergence of autonomous entities in the east.
Former Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Stepan Gavrish stated this on the Nash TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In his opinion, in order to prevent this, Ukraine must insist on the implementation of security guarantees under the Budapest Memorandum.
“We can’t bring back the topic of the Budapest Memorandum”? Can. We do not have to ask Washington and Berlin for permission to do this, we can do it ourselves, and we need to do it. This is the only opportunity to get out of the Minsk, humiliating, agreements, which lead to a new next agreement regarding Ukraine, which is already being discussed today,” the politician said.
"What's happening? We will be guaranteed the development of the Ukrainian state in new conditions – without Crimea and with quasi-statehood in Donbass. And only after we fulfill these conditions through the “Steinmeier formula” can we talk about a new restart of international relations. Apparently, this is moving towards this. No Ukrainian initiatives, no Ukrainian demands of any kind of pressure on Russia have achieved anything,” Gavrish said.
