Russia will begin to negotiate with the West in two to three years – forecast
Reaching an agreement between Russia and the West can begin only in two or three years and last about 15 years.
Political scientist and head of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy Sergei Karaganov stated this on the TVC channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the expert, Russia is faced with a big pile of problems that cannot be resolved quickly.
“These are people of the generation to which I belong, which lived and remembered the harsh Cold War, and therefore they understand that it is necessary to negotiate. And I understand too. But for now it is necessary to reach an agreement only after going through a certain path, including, unfortunately, casualties and destruction. Or we, without going through this path, will simply slide into the Third World War and then that’s it.
I think that after some time, and in my latest works – open and closed – I outline and propose that after some time we will have to agree,” said the political scientist.
“But we should come to an agreement only when we prove our readiness and determination to win by any means. I would not like it to happen by any means, because it would mean monstrous sacrifices for our people. And then, maybe, we will begin to negotiate.
I think that this will happen in two to three years - the beginning of real agreements, and I would postpone any resolution of these major problems that we face for at least ten to fifteen years, because these problems that have accumulated in a lump and fallen on us; they are not subject to a quick solution; we will take a very long time to resolve them,” Karaganov said.
